Captain’s report – Bob Unwin

Very happy with the year. In recent years we’ve had a number of problems with membership attendance and scoring, but we’re OK now.

Please remember to bring two pounds in coins for the birdies competition.

Thanks for your support in 2019. We’re now in our 21st year; our first event being 18th November 2000.

Vice Captain’s report – Jason Bowles

Jason reiterated what Bob said, confirming that counting was no longer a problem. He also apologised for the fuck up with the weekend away. He reminded players to keep up with the group in front. That means 4 balls have to try to play faster to keep up with 3 balls, and walkers speed up to keep up with buggies.

Handicap Secretary’s report – Andy Banting

Read out by Jason…

The year has gone well and thanks to all the members for making my life easy. I do occasionally get cards where it’s difficult to decipher the scores. So your best writing please.
Would also like to thank the other members of the committee for all their hard work this year. Have a great Xmas and New year and I will see you all at the presentation evening.

Read out by Jason in Andy’s absence.

Treasurer’s report – Mike Griffin

Mike hadn’t produced the formal accounts but Herb reported that Mike had said beforehand that they were in good stead. They’ll be ready by Paultons, Jan 2020.

Secretary’s report – Herb Miller

Herb handed out a sheet with current telephone numbers and emails for checking by attendees. Note: This information is not visible to site visitors.

He promised that in the future the event results that Andy emails will be added to the website.

Plans for 2019

Bob has booked all the events. He distributed the schedule for year, starting with Paultons in January. This year’s Captain’s Day will be at South Winchester on a Monday. See Events.

Election of Officers

As in previous years everyone stood down and were immediately unanimously re-elected.

This means that Al Fraser is still Social Secretary; does anyone fancy taking on this not so arduous role? See Contacts

Members proposals & AOB

Note: These minutes have been adjusted to take into account subsequent conversations between Herb and Andy.

Who Proposal Action?
HM Should the max score per hole be par plus 5? Rather than 10. Approved. AB will update spreadsheet.
RB Can someone take responsibility for counting birdies? Answer: Yes. SH proposed that each player should take responsibility for checking their own card before it’s submitted. From now on all players should sign their cards and check birdies are circled.
IL Could the tracking sheet, or scores/positions for the year, please be sent all year round, or be accessible/uploaded onto the site outside of normal sending months/dates? No. Not sent in the last few months.
Yes. The results will be uploaded to the website. But see above.
MY Can we adjust the reduction for 4 pointer birdies? e.g. Handicap
1-10: 0.2,
11 to 20: 0.3
above 20: 0.4.
Note: This is not quite inline with official player categories.
Yes. Confirmed with AB.
PM Can we make special allowances for lost balls in poor conditions. No. Play a provisional.
MY Can we have a handicap review? It’s far easier to go down than up. AB says: some players will be reset to the lower of their official handicap and society handicap.
HM/MY Perhaps winners should only be cut for one or two games, or just 0.5 for winning. AB says: No. We’re a social society. Let’s not spoil it by making it too serious. It’s worked in the past.

Meeting ended: 14:54.
Minutes written: 22 Jan 2020. There may be updates with Mike’s submitted the official treasurer’s accounts.

Course: Chichester Tower
Date: 7th December 2019
First tee: 2:30 pm
