The Anchor Golf Society Annual General Meeting (AGM) for 2025 was be held on Wed 28th January 2026 from 6:30pm.
All current members were invited to attend. Guests were also welcomed but were not entitled to vote.
It was a Zoom call, as last year, with minutes being taken from a recording of the meeting. The Zoom link was shared on WhatsApp on the day of the meeting.
The meeting was hosted from Herb’s house, with committee and members invited to attend in person.

Commitee reports for 2025
Captain’s report – Bob Unwin
As you’ve probably seen on the website I’ve done all the competitions.
Captain’s Day will be at Wellow, which we played 4 years ago. There’s 27 holes. 9 holes across the road which we’ll play in the morning, another 2 nines on the clubhouse side which makes 18, so we’ll be playing 27 different holes. Meals included. Price will be on the website.
There’s a new course, Milford, a few miles past the Hindhead tunnel. I haven’t played it yet. Steve and Jimmi played it a few weeks back and said it’s a very good course. Hopefully I’ll get there in the next few weeks, when the conditions are better.
Everything went OK last year. There were no mishaps. We’ve got no bad players. ie No-one that people don’t want to play with. A few people have joined, others have left. We’ve got 29 members. Not all play each month but we have had good attendance, sometimes including guests.
The society’s working well. No bad comments. People are satisfied with what we do. We’ve had members, who are in other societies, who thanked me and the rest of the committee for what we do to make our society better than others. So I’d like to thank the committee myself.

Handicap Secretary’s report – Andy Banting
Scoring’s been pretty good. Don’t forget to put scores down for the 18th hole. It’s all legible. I’ll be pretty elusive this year. You’ll probably only see me at 3 events, unless Pompey are playing on a Friday night.
Nothing else to say other than thanks a lot for making my life easy.

The profit on the year was just over £700, but we didn’t have a presentation evening, which would have eaten that up plus about £500 more.
Moving forward, in a nutshell, if we keep the green fees at £45 pounds and subs at £10, the total cost to any member playing all games, incl. Captain’s day, would be £565. Assuming we have 28 players per game we would make a loss of over £1100.
If we increase the green fees by £5 per game, to £50, we’d make a little bit of profit.
Recommendations
- Increase green fees to £50
- Subscriptions to remain at £10
- If we see the bank balance growing then towards the end of the year we might have one or two months where we waive the subscription. So everyone gets a little bit of money back.
- But, don’t forget that, of that money being carried forward, we’re holding deposits for weekend away.

Bob U: Reminder that our funds subsidise buggy costs for the weekend away.
Mike G: If you haven’t paid your subs then technically you can’t win a competition. There are some courses where I don’t get a phone signal. If you paid on the Friday/Saturday immediately before the competition I may not be able to confirm it on the Saturday. So please pay online, 7 days in advance.

Committee proposals for 2026
- Green fees to be increased to £50 for the end of month competitions.
- Passed
- Member subscriptions to remain at £10, for each month that we play a Saturday end of month competition.
- Passed – no change.
- Members and guests are kindly requested to pay online, before the event. Most courses require payments in full, 7 days before the event.
- 7 days before if possible.
- Trophies will be awarded for the following Majors after the competition at Hurtmore:
- Order of Merit: Winner and Runner Up

Election of officers
- The usual course of events is for all the committee members to stand down
- then they get unanimously re-elected immediately afterwards.
- But it could be different this year.
- Andy Banting is once again prepared to stand as Handicap Secretary
- but will not be attending many events due to other commitments.
- So if there’s anyone who wants to step in now’s your chance.

- It wasnt any different, the Committee remain the same.
- This’ll be Herb’s 26th year as Secretary.
- Bob’s, the other remaining original member, has been Captain since 2003.

There was no other business other than Bob U thanking everyone for our attendance and friendship.

Post AGM activity
- Herb wrote up the minutes from the Zoom recording.
- The Players list shows Attendees as Yes, and Apologies received as No.
During the 2025 meeting’s AOB, we forgot
- to vote on the discussion related to the publication of the Order of Merit tables during questions to the Handicap Secretary.
- and whether or not to pre-select the top 4 in the OOM to play together at the last event of the year.
The points raised were not considered by the committee throughout the year. I think we still forgot to do them, and they weren’t mentioned again at this year’s AGM.
