I’ve updated www.anchorgolf.com with links to this site ( www.anchorgolf.co.uk ) and the following entry on the home page:
We are moving
If you hadn’t already noticed by now, we are migrating from www.anchorgolf.com to www.anchorgolf.co.uk
The new site will contain the same information as the current site.
But it will also have many new features, some of which you will discover when you get there, others which will be added over time.
Please note that while new site is being constructed you will have to look here to find details about things that happened BEFORE mid 2010.
Eventually, when all the content has been migrated, then the two website names will be merged back into one.
If you have any comments on the migration, want to get involved in making it happen or any new ideas for the site then please let us know… using the new features of the new site.
Herb, September 2010
So what are the new features?
Well, first of all the new site is implemented using a Content Management System ( a package called Drupal). This means that the site content can be changed directly on the website by anyone who is authorised.
So you are no longer dependent on me (Herb) for web site updates.
Normal users – i.e. members of the Anchor Golf Society – will also have the ability to do certain things over and above simply viewing the website content.
Initially you can do the following:
- Log in and log out
- View and edit your account (using My account )
- Add comments to blog items
- Subscribe/un-subscribe to newsletter(s)
- Subscribe to the RSS feed
In the future you will be able to:
- Share an item with others on Facebook, Twitter or other social bookmarking sites.
- Specify whether or not you intend to play in a tournament.
- Update your profile – photo, notes about yourself, equipment profile.
- View your "results" – if you are a Winner, Runner up or Third or got a NTP prize or Birdies
- Write your own comments on Courses, Competitions etc
- Write your own blog entries.
- Vote on which courses to play next year.
- Search content.
Users with a bit more power (e.g. Committee members) will be authorised to create and edit content, write and publish newsletters and generally help administer the site.
So what needs to be migrated?
I’ve started from the current year and I’m working backwards. To date I’ve copied the "results" back to June this year. (See the Results menu).
The original website goes back to the start of 2008. Once we’ve copied everything that’s already online then we will be able to merge the sites back into one.
Then we can think about all the stuff that’s archived in paper files.
Post scriptum 30 Sept
Today Bob and I played at the Societies Open Day at Hill Barn. Lovely day, the course was in excellent condition. No trophy I’m afraid as it was a greensomes competition and there were other players who were better than us. Afterwards Bob booked up for at least 3 of next year’s comps… 1 at Hill Barn, 2 at Chi – all at this year’s prices. We also enquired about Horton Park, Epsom
Can you confirm you are getting these newsletters?
Can all recipients of this newsletter please confirm to me ( secretary@anchorgolf.com ) if you have received this newsletter and the previous one September results, next comp (16 Oct, Blacknest) … that I thought I’d sent on Sunday
